Pete grew up in Brooklyn where he was fascinated with New York City's subway grafitti, mid-century signage and architecture. He regularly drew illustrations of the vibrant urban scene.
He attended Boston University and immediately after graduating began his design career as a paste-up artist, creating movie ads for the art department of a local exhibitor.
Using an old school stat camera and inking lines with rapidographs and a t-square, Pete's fascination with typography and graphic design began. Working in the heart of Downtown Boston, Pete documented the city with a Nikon Nikkormat and was published in Bostonia Magazine.
In Los Angeles he transitioned to digital design and began working for ad agencies such as Diener Hauser, specializing in movie ads. Pete also began writing and editing his own films and learning visual effects.
At one agency, Pete befriended the son of Paul Crifo, a legendary movie poster designer from the 50s and 60s. Crifo would later become the subject of Mr. Movie Poster, a feature documentary Pete co-produced, directed and edited.
Pete currently lives in LA where he's visually inspired on a daily basis. He continues to design, draw and create films. He has channeled his love for mid-century signage, typography and architecture to his Instagram account. Visit PeteHandelman.com
